MONROVIA — The Forestry Development Authority (FDA) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) and the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC) to establish a new Shared Wood Processing Facility on August 10, 2026.
This initiative marks a major step toward strengthening Liberia’s domestic timber industry by expanding opportunities for small and medium forest enterprises.
The project is funded by the African Development Bank Group under Phase II of the Transition Support Facility (TSF) Pillar III Project.
Roles and Responsibilities
Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) & MVTC: Providing land for construction, with the facility to be built within the MVTC premises.
Forestry Development Authority (FDA): Financing the entire construction, hiring and supervising the construction firm, enforcing quality and safety standards, and facilitating technical training on equipment care.
Carpenters and Furniture Makers Associations: Eleven local artisan associations will manage daily operations, coordinate member participation, enforce safety rules, designate equipment operators, and assist with facility maintenance.
